The ACTR: A Brief History
1992 --
At the Sundown Tavern one afternoon, a group of riders, desiring to change the image of local bikers,
decided to hold a "Toy Run" (i.e. a charitable event favored by bikers) to collect toys and raise money for children of
Anderson County who would otherwise have little or nothing at Christmas. The word was passed and about
25 motorcycles and riders gathered at the Sundown Tavern on a Saturday afternoon in November 1992 to participate
in the "Run". The group, with toys (stuffed animals, Tonka trucks, etc.) bungee corded to their bikes, rode from
the Sundown Tavern by way of Clinton Highway, Edgemore Road, Melton Lake Drive, and Warehouse Road to the Warehouse
Tavern. At the Warehouse Tavern, the toys were collected and the group celebrated the event with a party where
cash donations and an auction raised funds "for the kids". The ride and the party were considered by all to be a lot of
fun and done for a very good cause. So, a committee was formed to plan and coordinate the ride as an "annual
event" and the Anderson County Toy Run was born!
